What does Myofunctional Therapy Involve?
The first appointment is an assessment, and will last about one hour. You will be taken through a series of exercises to evaluate areas such as facial muscle tone, cranial nerve function, and patency of airway. From this a therapy plan can be created. We will discuss areas that can be strengthened and what we need to focus on in the therapy sessions.

Each therapy session lasts between 30 and 40 minutes, and occurs every 2 weeks. In each session previous exercises will be reviewed, problem solved if necessary, and new exercises will be reviewed and demonstrated. The exercises should be done on a twice daily basis, and only take a few minutes per day. They target the areas specifically for you that need to be re-educated. Once each muscle if working properly, the exercises will start to focus on activities to promote balanced functions, and then habituation. It may sound complicated, but all you need to do to be successful is focus on completing the assigned tasks each week.
